Reflection Week 11

Reflection Week 10
During this week, Miss Amreet taught us about writing style for commercial website. There are several point that I got from her. To develop an effective commercial writing style:

- Use shorter sentences.
- Use simpler sentence structures.
- Use active voice.
- Write from the point of view of the company.
- Write more unvocally. (The voice of the company is always already a social voice).
- Identify the agents of actions unless there is a good reason for hiding agency.
- Avoid nominalizing verbs. (changing verbs into nouns, i.e. "decide" into "decision.")
- Recommend action rather than refer to individual mental states.
- Avoid qualifiers that weaken recommendations or express doubt.
- Avoid self reference and references to individual states of mind lessons,
Reflection Week 9
During this week, Miss Amreet taught us on the important styles for informative websites. If you have an existing site, or plan to develop one in the
near future, it's important to understand the characteristics that can make or
break the effectiveness of your online investment. An unattractive or poorly
built site will do more to hurt your business than to help it.
Simplicity: The best way to keep visitors glued to your site is through
valuable content, good organization and attractive design. Keep your site
simple and well organized.
Fast-loading pages: A page should load in 20 seconds or less
via dial-up; at more than that, you'll lose more than half of your potential
visitors.
Minimal scroll: This is particularly important on the first
page. Create links from the main page to read more about a particular topic.
Even the Search Engines will reward you for this behavior.
Consistent layout: Site layout is extremely important for
usability. Use a consistent layout and repeat certain elements throughout the
site.
Prominent, logical navigation: Place your menu items at the top of your site, or above the
fold on either side. Limit your
menu items to 10 or fewer. Remember, your visitors are in a hurry -- don't make them hunt for
information.
Descriptive link text: Usability testing shows that long link text makes it much
easier for visitors to find their way around a site. Long, descriptive link
text is favored by Search
Engines, too. Back links are important to give users a sense of direction and to keep them from feeling
lost. Use a site map, and breadcrumbs, if necessary.
Cross-platform/browser compatibility: Different browsers
often have different rules for displaying content. At a minimum, you should
test your site in the latest versions of Internet Explorer (currently, versions
8 and 9), as well as Firefox and Safari.
Reflection Week 8
For this week, Miss Amreet asks us to listed the three good and bad websites. After searching and surfing, I got the information that she want as follows:

1)http://www.havenworks.com/
2)http://www.arngren.net/

3)http://ronoslund.com/

Super Simple Learning
BAD

Reflection Week 7
During week 7, Miss Amreet teach us about the topic which is
writing style for the web. There are several information that i got during her
classes. First, use short paragraphs. Large blocks of text can look like walls,
and act as such to the user. Next, first paragraph should be brief, clear, and
to the point in order to quickly engage the user. Furthermore, write in an
inverted pyramid style.
Place the most important information at the top, extra
info toward the bottom. Not also that, don't waste space welcoming people to
the page. There is no need, and most users ignore any welcome text as filler.
Subsequently, you also need to name your page clearly. The page title and the
navigation title should match as closely as possible. Then, we may use bold and
italics sparingly. Bold should be used for headings and then sparingly for any
other emphasis. Too much bold makes text harder, not easier, to read and
differentiate.Last but not least, try to avoid exclamation points. We know
Hampshire is awesome! We love it! But exclamation points on websites make can
make it look unprofessional! Let the content speak for itself.

Compare and contrast essay.
Are computers a blessing or a curse?
The later half of the 20th century may be, to a large extend termed the electronic age. In a modern world marked by hustle and bustle and ceaseless activities, the physical efforts of man have gone to the background and he has become more and more dependent on machines for his everyday activities. From the housewife in the kitchen to the executive in the industry, everyone looks upon a machine as an able assistant. One of these is the computers.

When the computer is fed, it sorts out, stores and gives information on a variety of subject. Many problem of complicated nature are solved and it is even used to drive machines. It has been found so useful that the banking profesion is introducing the computer in every aspect of its activity. It is felt that maximum customer satisfaction can only be gained through the use it as much.

The greatest advantage in the use of computer is that it saves a lot of time and energy of man. Much time that could be spent in research work over a long period is saved through using the computer. It is also beneficial in development projects.
Computer science has become a popular branch of science. It has opened out new avenues for young men women to such an extend that there is a view that the fundamentals should be taught even to school-going children. However it is not as if the computer cannot make mistakes. Since it is a mechanical device, it is also fallible. The efficiency of this device will also depend upon the correct programming. If the programming is incorrect, the accuracy of the result cannot be guaranteed.
The computer has become such an integral part of our lives today that it has created a lot of job opportunities to the youth community especially who have a craze for computers. Its usage in many industries has increased the productivity and efficiency of machines which contribute much on industrial growth.
Computerization is yet another addiction. The question arises whether the computer would be a master or slave of man. It is a ticklish question, for it depends upon the manner in which it is used. In all probabilities, may go the way of all the machines invented so far. True enough, it is blessing to all humans.
Cause and effect essay.
The effects of a flood you had in your area.
For four days it rained non-stop. The rain was not very heavy but it kept on coming without letting up. Our neighbors and we were all worried about the possibility of a flood for the level of the nearby river had been rising steadily.

The next day the river overflowed its banks and the water spread out covering the entire area on which our house stood. To make matters worse, debris were caught on the bridge thus impeding the flow of the river. This had the effect of making the flood water rise even faster. The army came and blew a gap on the bridge to clear the blockage and this brought some relief to us.
Nevertheless, the rain continued. It was wet everywhere – the ground, our chairs, beds; even the walls were wet. We could not do any cooking and had to resort to eating tinned food. By about four o’clock in the afternoon, it became obvious that we had to evacuate to higher ground. If were lingered any longer, we might become trapped by the rising water and then we would really be in trouble.so with a few belongings we trudged through knee-deep water toward a school situated on a hill nearby. The school was temporarily being used as a flood relief center. When we reached the school we met many of our neighbors who had already gone there earlier. We were provided with food and a place to sleep. All that we could do was to wait for the flood to be over.
We spent the next two days cleaning up our house. We could not totally remove the mud and grime so we did the best we could to make the house a cosy home again. When we finished father took us to a well-known restaurant to have a well-deserved dinner.
For more than a year we had to endure the inconvenience of the long detour in coming and going from our area. It also took about that length of times for things to return to normal. New trees grew, new drains were made and most of all the omnipresent slimy mud turned into grass-covered soil, so wonderful to walk barefooted on. I supposed this was one way that nature use to renew itself. Whatever it is, I hope we will not have to go through another flood. It is absolutely no fun.
Problem solving essay.
Discuss the issues faced by the public regarding war toys given to children.
Children have been playing some form of war games throughout history, acting out the battle between the forces of good and evil. Today, there is an ongoing argument about whether allowing children to play with war toys leads to violent behavior. While many parents refuse to permit their children to play with guns and other war toys, some psychologists and toy industry officials do not believe that playing with war toys leads to violent behavior in later life.

Lastly, even people who are against war toys agree that in the final analysis, children learn values primarily from their parents and not from their toys.
Argumentative essay
Do you think that homework should be abolished? Discuss.
Homework is a bitter pill to many a student. Schools, as a rule set home tasks. They are given to make the student work at home. It serves another purpose also. It is to help the student to revise what has been done in the class. All schools set homework for students, some more and some less.
However, bitter as it may be, there must be some home tasks given. Education and mastery of knowledge is a matter of skill. There are subjects to learn a skill and others just to acquire knowledge. Both these groups require drill and repetition and teachers normally do so in classroom. But in the classroom, each individual student cannot expect the same amount of drill as each one may require. So the student will have to do that at home.
Homework need not necessarily be repeating what has been done in the class. The students go through references and acquire more and better knowledge. The world of knowledge is so wide that the teacher cannot bring everything into the grasp of the student. So the student must take up some initiative of his own. This may be one of the purposes of homework.

The school also must see that the student is not overburdened on one day and left free on other days. The teachers must see to it that the work is distributed throughout the week. Still there are subjects like Mathematics in the lower classes which require daily attention. There are others which can be attended to during the weekend, for example, map making and drawing diagram.
Simply because there is difficulty for some students, the homework cannot be abolished. If some students find it inconvenient to do their homework, the school must come to their rescue. They must provide some facilities in school so that the pupils can conveniently attend to their homework.
It is therefore not a question of abolishing the homework. It is a question of making it workable to the student.
Narrative essay
Write a story that ends with:
“… This incident has made me wiser.”
It was Monday, in the month of July 2002. I was only seven years old then but I can still remember that afternoon clearly. School was over and after saying goodbye to our classmates, my best friend, Narimah , and I headed home as usual. Our homes were about 800 meters away from school. It was actually quite a long walk for children of our age. But I had always enjoyed the walk especially since I could take short cut through the big playground, even though my mother told me again and again never take such short cut.
That day I felt very thirsty. As we approached the playground, I saw an ice cream vendor. I decided to buy some to quench my thirst despite Narimah’s disagreement. “I don’t think we should, our mothers will be angry,” she said. But, I was adamant about having that sweet, cooling ice cream cone. Leaving her behind, I ran across the playground to the ice cream vendor.
As I reached the van, a man came out. I had never seen his face before. He smiled and said, “Would you like an ice cream?” I did not get chance to say yes as within split seconds, he lifted me up with both hands, leaving me momentarily dumbfounded and speechless.

I quickly regained my senses and struggled to escape him. He held me tighter and carried me to an old blue van parked nearby. Recalling one kidnapping incident which I had watched on television, with all my might, I bit his hands. The man was in pain and shock that he loosened his grip. That was a moment of victory for me. I quickly ran as fast as I could towards my house. He tried to chase after me but sped off as soon as he realized that I was already in the compound of my house.
I was shaking when I told my mother about what had happened to me. I cried so hard. She hugged me and told me everything would be fine. Later, I followed my parents to the police station to lodge a police report.
From that moment onwards, my mother never allowed me to walk to school anymore. I learnt three things from the incident; never ever disobey your mother, never talk to strangers and take up some form of martial arts for self-defence. This incident has made me wiser.
Descriptive Essay
Describe an interesting event which is common in Malaysia.
The durian season is a special time for me. From the time the durian flowers appear, Opah, my grandmother would keep calling to remind us that the durian season would soon begin. Mak Cik Yah will call to ask whether we know of the proposed date for the durian feast. Mak Ngah will do the same.
After the bundling of pots and pans and other essential items into the booth of the jeep, soon it is time to head towards the orchard.
The younger ones go for a dip in the nearby creek. Then they alternate between eating and bathing. When evening comes and everyone has had their fill, the durian feast is over. For a while, I feel that I’ll never be able to take another piece of durian. But not for long, I pray that next year’s harvest will be as good if not better.
Reflection Week 6
WEEK 6
In week sixth, our class continued with some remaining presentation that have to be done. Amirah's presentation are really attract me which is she talked about Lie Detection. Here are the some facts that I have got from her presentation.
Micro-expressions are facial expressions that flash on a person's face for a fraction of a second and reveal the person's true emotion, underneath the lie. Some people may be naturally sensitive to them but almost anybody can train themselves to detect these micro-expressions
People tend to touch the nose more when lying and a great deal less when telling the truth. This is perhaps due to a rush of adrenaline to the capillaries in the nose, causing the nose to itch. A lying person is more likely to cover his or her mouth with a hand or to place the hands near the mouth, almost as if to cover the lies coming forth. If the mouth appears tense and the lips are pursed, this can indicate distress.
You can usually tell if a person is remembering something or making something up based on eye movements. When people remember details, their eyes move up and to the left if they are right-handed. When right-handed people make something up, their eyes move up and to the right. The reverse is true of left-handed people. People also tend to blink more rapidly ("eye flutter") as they're telling a lie. More common in men than in women, another tell of a lie can be rubbing the eyes.
Contrary to popular belief, a liar does not always avoid eye contact.Humans naturally break eye contact and look at non-moving objects to help them focus and remember. Liars may deliberately make eye contact to seem more sincere; this can be practiced to overcome any discomfort, as a way of "proving" that truth is being told.

Reflection Week 5
WEEK 5
In fifth week, our class still continued with the individual presentation. Most memorable presentation for me is Rosmariah Rosli’s presentation which is she talked about Misai Kucing. Here’s some facts that I have collected from her presentation.
Misai Kucing is a medicinal herb found mainly throughout South East Asia and tropical Australia which can grow to a height of 1.5m. Misai Kucing belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Misai Kuching is also known as Kumis kucing, cat whisker, kabling gubat, remujung, Javatee, Lamiaceae, Indisher Nierentee, Feuilles de Barbiflore, Java Tea, Kidney Tea, KoemisKoetjing and Yaa Nuat Maeo. Misai Kucing scientific name is Orthosiphon stamineus/ benth. In Malaysia, it is popularly known as Misai Kucing in lay man’s term. The reason the plant is named Misai Kucing ( Cat’s whiskers) is because of its flower’s fine filaments that resembles cat’s whiskers. Below are the pictures of Misai Kucing.
Misai Kucing’s leaves are arranged in opposite pairs. The leaves are simple, green in colour, glabrous with a lanceolate leaf blade and a serrate margin. The petiole is relatively short, about 0.3cm in length and is in purplish red colour while the stem is quadrangle and red in colour. Besides, Misai Kucing is also rich in antioxidant that is important to protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals.
Next, presentation from Grace Simbun Matthew also catch my attention where she talked about water birth. There are some facts that I have collect from her presentation.
You can labor and deliver in the water or move out of the water for the actual delivery. If you deliver in the water, the midwife or nurse will gently lift up and take your baby out of the water.
During a water birth at a hospital, both you and your baby will receive the same medical care as you would in a hospital bed. A special underwater Doppler device will monitor your baby's heartbeat. You can also receive medications through an IV while you are in the water. If you have a water birth at a standalone birth center or at home, you may have heartbeat monitoring or none at all.
Only women with a healthy pregnancy free of complications should consider a water birth. Be sure you fit the following profile before deciding on a water birth:
• You don't have an infection or excessive bleeding.
• You don't have any pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia or bacteria in the bloodstream, called toxemia.
• You don't have herpes. The infection can pass to the baby through the water.
• Your pregnancy is full term, or giving birth after 39 weeks.

Reflection Week 4
WEEK 4
During our fourth week, we continued with the individual presentation. It started with Nuraminah which is she talked about natural beauty and how you make your own natural mask.
1) Oily, Acne-Prone Skin
Oily skin is shiny skin, especially in the T-zone (from the forehead, down the nose to the chin). To test if you have oily skin, press a paper napkin to your forehead. When you pull it away, it should be soaked in oils. While you may find this annoying, the good thing about oily skin is it ages better than dry skin.
2) Dry, Chapped Skin (Recipes Also Good for Mature Skin)
Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing. You have a tendency towards fine wrinkles, flaking and red patches. In women of color, skin may appear ashy or dull from dead skin buildup. These face masks, combined with regular exfoliation and daily use of moisturizers should soothe dry, chapped skin.
3) Combination Skin
Most women (some experts say up to 70 percent, although how anyone arrived at that number is beyond me), have combination, or "normal" skin. Combination skin means you may have a slightly oily T-zone and drier cheeks with dry patchy spots here and there. This rose-based mask is perfect for balancing out the oily and dry areas of your skin.
Next, we have Syahira Anuar which is her topic is about bucket list:
Definition of BUCKET LIST is a list of things that one has not done before but wants to do before dying. Examples of bucket lists

Reflection Week 3
WEEK 3
During third week, Ms. Amreet teached us about creating a blog. There is a number of blog that we may use. A majority blog are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs, and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites. In that sense, blogging can be seen as a form of social networking service. Indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers. There are high-readership blogs which do not allow comments. Blogs are usually written in the first person, because they are the thoughts and expressions of the authors themselves. Blogs are often described as a written monologue. Even companies and commercial organizations use the first person for writing their blogs. It's more informal and direct: if you write a blog, it's because you want to get in touch with the outside world and so you use the most immediate means you can. WEEK 2
During the second week, Ms. Amreet teached us how to using Prezi, Personally, most of us are very familiar with Prezi, but we do not mastered it as her. So, she teached us during her Prezi Workshop as our assignment also needed us to present interesting topic by using Prezi platform. Not also that, she also asked us to show her proofreading so that we are not lost in track. I have asked her on what is mine. She approved it, which is my topic; Trypophobia. I am feeling so lucky because once I have asked, she approved it eventually. So, I can work on my topic.
